wikipedia
Wyszków is a town in Poland, located in the Masovian Voivodeship, serving as the seat of Wyszków County and the Gmina of Wyszków. Its rich history dates back to 1203. In the 16th century, it was a clerical town, and its municipal rights were granted by Płock Bishop Wincenty Przerębski in 1502. The town gained significance in the early 16th century, becoming an important trade hub due to the construction of a bridge over the Bug River and a customs chamber. Wyszków suffered repeatedly from wars, including during the Swedish invasions and World War II, which led to its near-total destruction. Architectural attractions include the Church of St. Giles from 1793 and the 18th-century classical palace in Rybienko Stare. Also noteworthy are the Vasa Obelisk and the remains of a 19th-century brewery. Wyszków is the site of important cultural events associated with figures such as Stefan Żeromski, who set the action of his short story in the town, and Andrzej Wajda, who filmed scenes here for his movie "Katyń." The town hosts painting plein-airs and has its own representation in music, including the song "Wyszków tonie" by Elektryczne Gitary. In modern times, Wyszków has developed its industry, particularly in furniture and glass manufacturing, with a glassworks and the FSO Powertrain Plant located within its borders. The town is home to numerous schools and colleges, including a branch of the Paweł Włodkowic University. An interesting fact is that Wyszków has a designated medical landing site, and the town boasts modern road infrastructure, including a bypass and a railway line. Wyszków is also a center for sports activities, with football, volleyball, and futsal clubs. The town is commemorated by the ship m/s "Wyszków," which sailed under that name from 1979 to 2006. With its rich history, architecture, and cultural life, Wyszków is a place of regional significance that blends tradition with modernity.
