wikipedia
Ząbkowice Śląskie, historically known as Frankenstein, is a town located in Lower Silesia with a rich history dating back to around 1280. The town was founded at the intersection of important trade routes, which contributed to its development. Ząbkowice was fortified with walls, which were replaced by a stone wall in the 14th century, and its prosperity was reflected in the privileges granted, such as fishing rights and warehouse rights. In the Middle Ages, Ząbkowice was an important commercial and judicial center. The town passed through various rulers, being under the control of Czech monarchs and later the empire, leading to cultural diversity among its inhabitants. In the 17th century, the town suffered greatly during the Thirty Years' War, and the 19th century brought dynamic development and modern infrastructure solutions, such as waterworks and gasworks. As a result of a fire in 1858, many buildings were destroyed, but reconstruction followed. After World War II, Ząbkowice became part of Poland, and the German population was displaced. The town's architecture is diverse, including the 14th-century Church of St. Anne, the Leaning Tower, the complex of Silesian Dominicans, defensive walls, a neo-Gothic town hall, and numerous tenement houses from various eras. Cultural activities in Ząbkowice Śląskie are carried out by the Ząbkowice Cultural Center, which organizes cyclical events such as the Weekend with Frankenstein. The town cooperates with foreign partners, including the Czech Republic and Germany, developing exchanges in education and culture. Ząbkowice is not heavily forested, but there are nature reserves in the area. The town has many educational institutions, including a high school and primary schools, as well as an external center of the University of Economics. An interesting fact is the sanitary landing pad opened in 2011, as well as the recent discovery of a medieval well. Despite numerous transformations, Ząbkowice Śląskie has retained its historical character, making it an interesting place on the map of Lower Silesia.
