Zamość Commune, previously known as Mokre Commune, is located in the Lublin Voivodeship within Zamość County. It was established on October 12, 1973. The town of Zamość serves as the administrative seat of the commune, which is the most populous rural commune in the voivodeship, with a population of 21,881 according to 2011 data. Zamość Commune plays a significant role in the region, being situated in a historical and cultural center with a rich tradition dating back centuries. Between 1975 and 1998, the commune was part of the Zamość Voivodeship. An interesting fact is that the Zamość-Mokre Airport operates within the commune, making it an important transportation hub. The commune also features diverse geography – 80.1% of its area is agricultural land, while 8.9% is forested, which supports agriculture and tourism. The commune is home to two nature reserves – Hubale, which protects the speckled ground squirrel, and Wieprzec, known for its unique peatland vegetation. Historically, Zamość Commune is a continuation of the former Mokre Commune, which previously included various villages. Administratively, the commune oversees many villages, including Białobrzegi, Borowina, Lipki, and Wierzchowiny. Neighboring communes include Adamów, Łabunie, Nielisz, Sitno, and others, making it part of a diverse regional landscape.
