Zdzieszowice, located in the Opole Voivodeship within Krapkowice County, is a town with a rich history and traditions. As the seat of an urban-rural municipality, Zdzieszowice has gained importance as an administrative, cultural, and economic center in the region. The town is best known for the "Zdzieszowice" Coking Plant, one of the largest coke producers in Poland and Europe. From a geological perspective, the area is characterized by the presence of eskers and lies within the terraces of the Oder River. The history of Zdzieszowice dates back to at least 1386, and the name itself has its roots in the name Zdziech, related to names such as Zdzisław or Zdziesław. Over the centuries, Zdzieszowice underwent various name modifications, and during the Third Reich, it was named Odertal. The town witnessed significant historical events, including fierce battles during the Third Silesian Uprising. In 1910, Zdzieszowice had a population of 1,567, a significant portion of whom spoke Polish. The town features several historical sites, including a mass grave of Silesian insurgents and a palace park from the late 19th century. An interesting fact is the hand-operated ferry on the Oder River, the only one of its kind in the voivodeship. In the cultural sphere, Zdzieszowice is active thanks to the Municipal Cultural Center, which organizes various events, and the Municipal Public Library, whose collections exceed 80,000 volumes. In sports, the town boasts a stadium, a sports hall, a swimming pool, and a mini-skatepark. Numerous sports clubs operate here, including the Hutniczy Klub Sportowy "Ruch." Zdzieszowice also takes pride in its international cooperation, with partnerships with cities such as Bohumín in the Czech Republic and Ludwigsfelde in Germany. Primary schools and the Jan Pawel II School Complex provide education for young residents, while in the religious sphere, diverse communities exist, such as the Roman Catholic Church and Jehovah's Witnesses. With its unique heritage and vibrant social life, Zdzieszowice is an interesting place on the map of Poland.
