wikipedia
Zwierzyniec is a charming town located in the Lublin Voivodeship, surrounded by forests and adjacent to the Roztocze National Park. As the seat of an urban-rural municipality, it covers an area of 6.19 km², and according to 2019 data, the town is home to 3,165 residents. The history of Zwierzyniec dates back to 1593, when it was established as a result of the activities of the Zamoyski Estate. Initially, the town served as a summer residence for the Zamoyski family, with a hunting manor by the pond at its center. In the 19th century, the town flourished thanks to industrial activity, with factories producing porcelain, soap, and other craft workshops. During World War II, Zwierzyniec became the site of tragedies for the civilian population, with camps for residents and a ghetto for Jews. In 1990, the town was granted municipal rights. Zwierzyniec is known for its many monuments, including the complex of St. John Nepomucene Church with its Baroque facade, the Roman Catholic cemetery, and the Jewish cemetery. The execution site from 1944 and the plenipotentiary's palace are other interesting points in the town. The town also stands out for its large number of monuments commemorating important figures and events, and in the city park, there is a unique stone marking the eradication of locusts. The Borek district is also noteworthy, with preserved wooden houses from the 1920s and 1930s. Zwierzyniec is active in sports thanks to the football club Sokół Zwierzyniec. From January 2024, passenger rail connections are also planned, which will facilitate travel to other cities. The town engages in international cooperation with several partners, highlighting its openness to contemporary social trends. An interesting fact is that it is home to the only tree in Poland growing in the middle of a road, surrounded by warning barriers.
