wikipedia
Maków County, located in the northern part of the Masovian Voivodeship, has a rich history dating back to the 16th century. Its current borders were established in 1999 as part of the administrative reform. The seat of the county is the town of Maków Mazowiecki, and its administrative structure includes urban, urban-rural, and rural communes, including well-known localities such as Różan, Czerwonka, and Krasnosielc. The first starost (county head) after 1989 was Kazimierz Białobrzeski, and the current starost is Zbigniew Deptuła, who previously served as a member of parliament. Maków County reflects a rich cultural heritage, with numerous monuments such as churches and palaces that attract tourists. During the interwar period (Second Polish Republic), it was part of the Warsaw Voivodeship, and after World War II, it underwent numerous administrative changes. During the occupation, the county was incorporated into the Third Reich, which had a significant impact on the local population and the region's development. After the war, the county was restored, and its administration temporarily operated from Krasnosielc due to the destruction in Maków. Interestingly, despite historical upheavals, Maków County plays an important role in cultivating local traditions by organizing various cultural events and festivals that highlight its unique character. Modern demographics indicate numerous changes: in 2019, the county had a population of 44,892, with a slight decrease to 44,667 in 2020, which may reflect migratory trends in the region. The county borders other administrative units, such as Wyszków, Pułtusk, Ciechanów, Przasnysz, and Ostrołęka counties, fostering cooperation and cultural exchange. The architectural heritage of Maków is represented by structures from various eras, distinguishing the region within the Masovian Voivodeship.
