wikipedia
Ścinawa is a colorful town located in the northern part of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in the Lubin County, with a rich history dating back to the 13th century. The first mention of the village dates back to 1202, and it was granted town rights between 1248 and 1259. Throughout its history, Ścinawa was repeatedly destroyed, including during the Thirty Years' War and World War II, which led to the loss of many historic buildings, such as the town hall and monastery. Despite this, the town has preserved valuable landmarks, including the Gothic Parish Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross from the 14th century, castle ruins, and fragments of medieval town walls. Ścinawa also boasts the town hall tower and a historic urban layout of the old town from 1215. The town is also a local industrial and commercial center, with numerous businesses operating in the service and trade sectors. The Cultural and Tourism Center organizes various events, and the Folk Ensemble of the Ścinawa Land represents local culture. Ścinawa is also home to the popular football club "Odra," as well as a karate club that has won numerous national and international medals. The town is well-connected, with an operational railway station and a road transport network, and since 2021, it has offered free public transport on the Ścinawa–Lubin route. An interesting aspect of Ścinawa's history is its connection to the monastery in Trzebnica and the title "Heir to the Kingdom of Poland," which was held by one of the local figures, Jan of Ścinawa. The town underwent significant reconstruction after World War II, preserving its character and identity despite wartime devastation. It is also worth noting that Ścinawa was once the capital of a separate duchy, adding to its historical significance. Interestingly, during the interwar period, the town was an important transportation hub thanks to its railway connections, which contributed to the development of the local economy. Today, Ścinawa represents a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, offering residents and visitors a rich array of historical, cultural, and sporting attractions.
