Ścinawa Deanery

The Ścinawa Deanery is one of the 28 deaneries in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Legnica, encompassing six parishes. Architecturally, the parishes within the deanery are distinguished by a diversity of styles, ranging from Neo-Gothic to Classicism, reflecting local building traditions and regional influences. Each parish, such as the Parish of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Chobienia, features unique elements like historic altars or paintings that attract both the faithful and tourists. Culturally, the deanery holds significant importance for the local community, organizing numerous religious events, festivals, and concerts that bring residents together and preserve traditions. Historically, the area has a rich past dating back to the Middle Ages, when the first churches and parishes were established—their stories still alive in the narratives of local inhabitants. Interestingly, some of the churches in the deanery have preserved Gothic elements, which are rare in the region, and their architecture attests to the area’s rich religious and artistic history. Additionally, parishes such as the Parish of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Wielowieś are often pilgrimage sites, underscoring their religious and cultural significance in the lives of the local people.
