Świdnica County, located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, was established as a result of the 1999 administrative reform. Its capital is the city of Świdnica, known for its rich history and architecture. In 2019, the county's population was 156,921, which decreased to 156,550 by 2020. The county consists of urban municipalities: Świdnica and Świebodzice; urban-rural municipalities: Jaworzyna Śląska, Strzegom, and Żarów; and rural municipalities: Dobromierz, Marcinowice, and Świdnica. Previously, all these municipalities were part of the Wałbrzych Voivodeship. The county borders the city of Wałbrzych and the counties of Jawor, Środa Śląska, Wrocław, Dzierżoniów, and Wałbrzych. Over the years, it has been governed by various district leaders, including Wojciech Murdzek, Jacek Wajs, Zygmunt Worsa, and the current leader, Piotr Fedorowicz. Economically, Świdnica County has an unemployment rate of 5.4%, with approximately 3.2 thousand registered unemployed residents. Świdnica, as a historic city, offers much in terms of architecture, culture, and tourism. Its most important landmark is the Church of Peace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which reflects the region's rich history tied to the Protestant Reformation and wooden architecture. Local traditions and vibrant cultural life also attract both residents and tourists.
