Adam Mickiewicz Municipal Park in Sanok is the largest mountain park in Poland, covering an area of over 10 hectares. It is located in the city center and is dominated by Park Mountain, which stands at 364 meters above sea level. Its history dates back to 1885, when the municipal garden was opened, and its development was initiated by August Ścibor-Rylski. In the 1890s, the park was designed by architect Władysław Beksiński, and later Arnold Röhring proposed the arrangement of buildings around the park. The park features historical landmarks, including Chopin’s Spring and the Adam Mickiewicz Mound, created in honor of the poet. This area was a venue for cultural gatherings, concerts, and social events. During World War II, the park was devastated, and the Germans built a swimming pool there exclusively for their use. After the war, the park was modernized, and in the early 21st century, revitalization efforts began, including new plantings and infrastructure upgrades. In 2015, the park was listed in the municipal register of historical monuments. The park’s flora and fauna resemble those found in the Słonne Mountains, with a tree stand consisting mainly of ash, hornbeam, and linden trees, as well as rare plants such as the primrose and snowdrop. The park is also home to various birds and squirrels, making it not only a recreational space but also an important part of the local ecosystem.
