wikipedia
The "Dworek Białoprądnicki" Culture Center is housed in a historic 16th-century bishop's palace, built by Chancellor Samuel Maciejowski. This Renaissance building features three stories and was designed with defensive features from the outset, complete with beautiful loggias and an expansive garden. Over the centuries, the palace has hosted prominent cultural figures, including Julian Kochanowski and Mikołaj Rej. In the 18th century, Bishop Andrzej Załuski significantly expanded the residence, giving it a Baroque character with a new roof and an enlarged garden. Throughout its history, the palace suffered numerous damages, particularly during the Swedish Deluge and the Bar Confederation. In the 19th century, after being confiscated by Austrian authorities, it greatly declined in importance. It wasn't until the 1970s that the communist-era Polish government restored its cultural functions. Today, the center hosts concerts, lectures, and theater events. The Jazz Club Dworek has become an important venue on the Polish jazz scene, featuring performances by renowned musicians and providing a platform for young talents. The cultural activities at Dworek include theaters, an art studio, and therapeutic programs for people with disabilities. Various cultural clubs also operate here. An interesting fact is that Bożena Krzyżanowska began her theater career at Dworek, and many well-known Polish musicians, such as Ewa Bem and Marek Grechuta, have performed here. This place, rich in history and culture, continues to attract artists and art enthusiasts alike.
