The Museum of the Small Town in Bieżuń, located in the Masovian Voivodeship, is a branch of the Museum of the Masovian Countryside in Sierpc. It was established in 1974 on the initiative of Stefan Gołębiowski, a local social activist, and Marian Przedpełski, an ethnographer and historian. The museum changed its name and location several times, and since 1994 it has been operating under its current name at 19 Stary Rynek. The museum displays exhibits related to the history and material culture of a small town, particularly from the second half of the 19th century, and organizes temporary exhibitions of local artists and folk art. The institution also houses the legacy of Stefan Gołębiowski. The museum is open year-round, except on Mondays. Additionally, the museum includes a library and is involved in publishing activities, issuing publications such as the "Bieżuńskie Zeszyty Historyczne" (Bieżuń Historical Notebooks) and organizing the "Stefan Gołębiowski Voivodeship Poetry Competition," highlighting its commitment to promoting local culture and art. The museum plays a vital role in preserving local heritage and is an important place for the Bieżuń community, combining historical, cultural, and educational aspects.
