wikipedia
Bachorz is a settlement in Poland, located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, within Brodnica County, in the Górzno municipality. The village features a water-retaining mill and a small hydroelectric power plant, which are interesting elements of the local infrastructure. The history of Bachorz dates back to the 18th/19th century when the estate spanned over 100 hectares. Documented owners of the village included, among others, Józef and Wincenty Rochon, and later E. Hensel. After the Congress of Vienna, Bachorz found itself within the borders of the Russian Empire, making it a border village. A significant event that took place in Bachorz was the surrender of Polish troops during the November Uprising on October 5, 1831. At that time, forces commanded by General Maciej Rybiński laid down their arms after crossing the border with Prussia. Following this event, many people, including prominent politicians and poets, went into exile. In 2010, a monument commemorating the November insurgents was unveiled in Bachorz to honor this historical event. The monument depicts the silhouette of General Rybiński, and next to it stands a wooden Pieta sculpture by Paweł Olender. The monument was funded by Stefan Kiczyński, a regionalist and history enthusiast, and his initiative gained support from local residents. The unveiling ceremony had a distinguished atmosphere, with children from the school in Świedziebnia presenting an artistic performance. The ceremony, attended by clergy, emphasized the importance of remembering the heroic deeds of the insurgents. A commemorative oak tree planted near the obelisk symbolizes this event. Bachorz, as a place rich in history, is an important point of local identity and culture.
