wikipedia
The building at 2 Grzegorza z Sanoka Street in Sanok, known as Ramerówka (or the Arcades), is a 19th-century tenement house with a rich history. Built after the city fire in 1872, it was originally the private property of the Jewish Ramer family, whose members were actively involved in the city's cultural life, running an orchestra and engaging in political activities. The building's walls underwent numerous transformations, with architect Władysław Beksiński overseeing multiple reconstructions. In 1866, the building became the seat of the Burghers' Reading Room, which organized cultural, ball, and theatrical events. During the interwar period, the "Uciecha" cinema and the Polish Tatra Society were based in Ramerówka. After World War II, it underwent various changes: it hosted cultural activities and also served as a club for PGNiG employees. In the 1990s, it gained new life as a restaurant and commercial space. A remarkable part of its history is that during the German occupation, the building was transformed, resulting in its new arcaded form, which gave it the local name "Arcades." Additionally, near the western facade of the tenement, there is a square named Plac Marii (Mary's Square), commemorating the former Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and nearby stands the Millennium Stone monument. Ramerówka has been entered into the municipal register of monuments of Sanok, highlighting its historical and architectural significance.
