Chapel of Divine Mercy in Janiszów

The Chapel of Divine Mercy in Janiszów is a Roman Catholic filial church of the Parish of Saints Peter and Paul in Kamienna Góra, located in the Kamienna Góra East deanery of the Legnica diocese. Built on a quadrangular plan, the chapel features a simple structure with windows on the side walls and a presbytery closed by a straight wall. Inside, there is a tabernacle with the Blessed Sacrament and an image of the Divine Mercy Jesus. The construction of the chapel began in the 1990s in response to the needs of the local community, who desired their own place of worship due to the difficulties of traveling to the church in Kamienna Góra. In 1995, the first Mass was celebrated on the construction site, and the chapel was consecrated by Bishop Stefan Cichy in 2006. The history of the village dates back to the late 13th century, when it was possibly founded by Benedictine monks. For a long time, Janiszów did not have its own church, and in the 1940s, it was separated from the Parish of Saints Peter and Paul in Kamienna Góra as a Pastoral Center. After World War II, the demographic landscape of Janiszów changed significantly due to population resettlements. During the political transformation after 1989, residents began efforts to build a chapel, which resulted in strong local community support and the completion of construction in 2000. An interesting fact is that the church bells were originally transported from a German cemetery, and their placement on the tower of the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary significantly reduced their audibility. The bells were later moved to a hill near the church, where they were installed on a metal structure. The history of the chapel and its location reflect the complex cultural mosaic of the region, where the destinies of various communities and the spiritual aspirations of the inhabitants intertwine. It is also worth noting that the chapel contributes to the promotion of the Divine Mercy devotion, especially after the beatification of Saint Faustina Kowalska in 1993.
