wikipedia
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Śrem, commonly known as the parish church, is the oldest preserved temple in the city. Built in the Gothic style with Baroque furnishings, it serves as the main church of the Parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The history of the church dates back to pre-location times when a church dedicated to St. Nicholas stood on the left bank of the Warta River, which was dismantled in the 19th century. The current church was likely built after the town's re-establishment in 1393, with significant modifications and expansions, including the addition of a tower in the 16th century that reaches a height of 62 meters. The architecture of the temple is characterized by a late Gothic style, a unified nave, a rectangular presbytery, and a multi-story tower. The interior of the church features a star vault and late Baroque furnishings, including the main altar with a painting of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The church also boasts two Baroque side altars, several sculptures, and stained glass windows related to Polish patron saints. An interesting fact is that the organ, built in 1929, was played by composer Feliks Nowowiejski during a recital. Surrounding the church are epitaph plaques dedicated to priests and a cemetery with the grave of a renowned writer. Thus, the church is a place of rich history, unique architecture, and great cultural significance to the local community.
