wikipedia
The Church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos in Rudka is a unique monument of Greek Catholic wooden architecture, located in Rudka near Przeworsk. Built in 1693, the church represents an archaic type of temple whose forms date back to the Middle Ages. It is an example of rich wooden architecture and is included on the Wooden Architecture Route, highlighting its cultural significance in southeastern Poland. In the 18th century, the structure underwent transformations – the side extensions on the corners (so-called *rysie*) were removed, and a new tower was erected over the women's gallery (*babiniec*). In 1924, the church was moved 20 meters to make way for the construction of a new brick church, which led to the loss of its religious functions. After World War II, as a result of the displacement of the Ukrainian population, the church was abandoned. In later years, numerous renovations were carried out, including in 1958, 1988, and the 1990s. A major renovation took place between 2011 and 2012, although the tower destroyed by a hurricane in 1986 was not rebuilt. The church in Rudka is not only a valuable architectural relic but also a site of rich cultural history, illustrating the social and cultural changes that have taken place over the centuries.
