Church of the Most Holy Blood of Jesus Christ in Poznań

The Church of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ in Poznań is a historic rectoral church that serves as a sanctuary and is part of the Poznań Eucharistic Trail. It is located in a former tenement house at 34 Żydowska Street, a site shadowed by a history linked to an unsuccessful desecration of the Host by Jews in 1399. Construction of the church began in the early 18th century and was completed in 1704. The outer walls of the earlier tenement were repurposed, giving the church its unique character. The main façade, adorned with a Baroque gable and Gothic remnants, leads into a unified interior featuring several richly decorated Baroque altars with polychrome paintings and sculptures. The interior, dating to the first half of the 18th century, is styled in Baroque with late Gothic elements, such as a Pietà and the painting *Lamentation*. The main altar holds an image of Christ as the "Vir Dolorum" (Man of Sorrows), along with paintings of the Sorrowful Mother of God and other Eucharistic-themed artworks. The church also houses a 19th-century organ and crypts with an artistically lined well, where, according to legend, the Hosts were drowned. In 2005, a plaque commemorating the desecration was removed due to its anti-Jewish content and relocated to the Archdiocesan Museum. It is also worth noting that the church became a Lenten stational church in 2017, underscoring its spiritual significance to the local community.
