wikipedia
The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Liskowate is a wooden Greek Catholic temple, built on the site of an earlier church mentioned as early as 1564. Constructed most likely in 1832, it is one of the few surviving examples of the Boyko-style church in Poland. The church features a log structure, three segments, and a unique chapel dedicated to St. Demetrius above the babinets (women’s gallery), making it a remarkable architectural landmark. Over the years, the church underwent several renovations, one of which in the 1960s remained unfinished due to a lack of documentation. After 1951, the church was abandoned and for some time served as a storage facility for artificial fertilizers. In 1974, it was handed over to the Roman Catholic Church, but after the construction of a new church, it has remained unused since 1996, leading to its gradual deterioration. Surrounding the church are a 19th-century bell tower-gate and an old cemetery, though the original interior furnishings have not been preserved. The church is part of the Wooden Architecture Route, highlighting its importance in Poland's cultural heritage. Today, despite its state of decay, it remains a valuable historical and architectural testimony to the region.
