Hotel Copernicus, located at Kanonicza Street in Kraków, is housed in the historic Kamienica Pod Motylem (Butterfly Tenement), whose history dates back to the 14th century. Initially, two two-story houses stood on this site, and between 1411 and 1435, Canon Paweł Włodkowic transformed them into a palace that spanned the entire width of the property. After a fire in 1455, the building was reconstructed, and in 1554 it underwent significant expansion and remodeling, which introduced Gothic polychromes and a portal with an inscription from that period. In the 16th century, the tenement was home to the renowned historian Marcin Kromer, later the Bishop of Warmia, underscoring its cultural significance. In 1802, the building came under Austrian administration, and at the end of the 20th century, it was acquired by the hotel group Likus Hotele i Restauracje, which carried out its renovation, restoring the medieval façade and remnants of the window frames. The hotel opened in 1998, offering 21 rooms and 8 luxury apartments. Architecturally, the building combines Gothic elements with later styles, making it a fascinating example of Kraków's historical heritage. Thanks to its location and rich history, the hotel is an attractive destination for tourists and an ideal starting point for exploring the city's cultural treasures.
