District I – Stare Miasto in Kraków, located in the central part of the city, is one of the key areas with a rich history and architectural significance. The boundaries of the district were established based on the District Statutes adopted in 2014, and its area includes well-known neighborhoods such as Kazimierz, Kleparz, Nowe Miasto, and Wawel. Stare Miasto is an extremely important site for Kraków's culture and history, home to numerous monuments such as Wawel Castle, the Cloth Hall, and St. Mary's Basilica. The district is known for its picturesque streets, representative squares, and a rich cultural offering, including festivals, concerts, and artistic events that attract both tourists and residents. The architecture of Stare Miasto combines various styles, from Gothic to Renaissance and Baroque, making this district a true open-air museum. An important part of social life are the numerous cafes, restaurants, and art galleries that create the unique atmosphere of this place. The Chair of the District Council for the 2023–2028 term is Jan Hoffman, reflecting the local community's involvement in the district's life. An interesting fact is that until 1990, Stare Miasto was part of the Śródmieście district, highlighting the dynamic administrative development of Kraków. District I is also an important transportation hub, facilitating access to other parts of the city and the region.
