wikipedia
Głębokie Lake, located in the Lubusz Voivodeship, is the largest endorheic lake in the region. It is situated in the municipality of Międzyrzecz, within the Lubusz Lakeland area, near the Obra River. Its shores are predominantly covered with coniferous forests, while the southern and northern banks are marshy. The eastern shore features recreational infrastructure, including a holiday resort with bathing areas, camping cabins, and a water equipment rental service. Głębokie Lake has a rich history dating back to at least the 14th century, when it was mentioned in documents as a source of fish, a fact confirmed by royal privileges. In the 18th century, a dispute arose between Międzyrzecz and the Cistercian monastery in Bledzew over the rights to the lake and surrounding forests. The construction of the nearby S3 expressway may have impacted the lake's water level, which has dropped by 120 cm since the beginning of the 21st century. Despite being a popular tourist attraction, the lake is not under nature protection. However, studies indicate that its water quality has remained high, classified in recent years as Class I and II purity. Interestingly, Głębokie Lake is considered one of the cleanest bodies of water in the Lubusz Lakeland. A 2021 study even found it to have the cleanest water in Poland in terms of chlorophyll content. Fishing activities on the lake are managed by the Polish Angling Association, and the lake is home to various fish species, including vendace, pike, and perch.
