Diocesan Museum in Siedlce

The Diocesan Museum in Siedlce, established in 1918 on the initiative of Bishop Henryk Przeździecki, initially operated as the museum of the Podlasie Diocese in Janów Podlaski. In 1924, after the diocese was moved to Siedlce, the museum found its new home in the building of the bishop's curia. In 1991, it was relocated once again to a new location on Świrskiego Street. Between 1992 and 1999, significant adaptation works were carried out, transforming the building into a museum space, which allowed for a better display of the collected artifacts. The official opening of the new Diocesan Museum took place on June 1, 2000, following a decree issued by Bishop Jan Wiktor Nowak. The museum plays an important cultural role, showcasing a rich collection of sacred art monuments and documents tracing the history of the diocese. In 2004, the museum was enriched with a valuable exhibition of the painting *Saint Francis Receiving the Stigmata*, attributed to El Greco, which is undoubtedly a major attraction for visitors and a testament to the high artistic value of the collections. The museum not only serves as a space for historical and artistic education but also functions as a cultural center, organizing exhibitions, lectures, and other events aimed at promoting knowledge about the heritage of the Siedlce Diocese. Over time, the Diocesan Museum in Siedlce has become a significant point on the cultural map of the region, connecting local history with the broader context of European art.
