Dymitrów Mały

Dymitrów Mały is a village located in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, in Tarnobrzeg County, within the administrative district of Baranów Sandomierski, with a rich history dating back to the 15th century. Administratively part of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship since 1999, the village has its roots in the former parish structures associated with Baranów Sandomierski. In the 16th century, there was a wooden church dedicated to St. Catherine here, which eventually fell into ruin. Dymitrów Mały witnessed numerous border disputes between neighboring settlements, resulting from intensive settlement development. In the 17th century, these lands saw events related to the dominance and settlement of the nobility, leading to conflicts with local starosts. The village was known for its numerous ponds, which were mentioned in medieval documents. Between 1853 and 1855, Dymitrów Mały became part of Mielec County, and from 1867 it returned to Tarnobrzeg County. Throughout various historical periods, the village was subordinate to different administrations until its current status as part of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship. Education in Dymitrów Mały evolved over the years, from 1905 until the late 1920s, when children began attending school in Baranów. Interestingly, Dymitrów Mały is a place of religious memory—the residents maintain the veneration of various saints through crosses and shrines, including a historic Marian shrine from 1925 and a statue of St. John of Nepomuk, discovered after a flood in 1932. The village has had a Volunteer Fire Department since 1900, reflecting the active life of the local community. Dymitrów Mały is an example of a linear village, where farms are clustered along the road, surrounded by numerous religious monuments. At the southern end of the village stands a cross, consecrated by the Bishop of Tarnów in 1982, which is a replica of an earlier cross from 1899. With its history, socio-cultural structure, and architecture of local religious sites, Dymitrów Mały represents an interesting example of a village with a rich past and strong local traditions.
