Baranów Sandomierski is an urban-rural municipality in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, within the Tarnobrzeg County, with its administrative seat located in the town of Baranów Sandomierski. The municipality boasts a rich history, highlighted by the honorary citizenship granted to Tarnobrzeg starost Tadeusz Len in 1938, and the incorporation of the village of Nagnajów into the municipality on October 1, 1976, which was later transferred to Tarnobrzeg in 1992.
Baranów Sandomierski is situated in the Sandomierz Basin, where at least 60% of its area is agricultural land, while 21% is covered by forests. The municipality is traversed by the Vistula River and several smaller watercourses, including the Babulówka and Trześniówka streams. The landscape features the artificial Zwałka Dąbrowicka embankment and Łysa Góra—the highest natural elevation in the municipality.
The area is rich in sulfur deposits and includes protected areas under the Natura 2000 network, such as the Krasiczyńskie Ponds. Additionally, the municipality encompasses the Wiślisko pod kopcem ecological site and part of the Natura 2000 Tarnobrzeska Dolina Wisły (Tarnobrzeg Vistula Valley).
Baranów Sandomierski supports senior football clubs and the Municipal Sports Academy, which offers sections for athletics, football, and kayaking. In 2010, the municipality had a population of 12,066, with an average per capita income of PLN 3,275.16. It borders several other municipalities, and its social structure and sports infrastructure reflect the dynamic development of the region.
