Fort GW IV "Optyń" is an armored fort of the Przemyśl Fortress, constructed between 1897 and 1900 on the site of an older field rampart. Its architecture combines concrete, brick, masonry, and earthen elements, making it a unique example of fort design from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Optyń was the last and one of the most expensive forts in the fortress, reflecting the defensive needs and military technological advancements of the time. Historical events associated with the fort include its partial demolition in 1915 during the Second Siege of Przemyśl Fortress and subsequent dismantling in the 1920s and 1930s. An interesting fact is that the fort had features resembling those of an artillery fort, indicating the evolution of defensive thinking during that period. Today, the fort is an important part of local culture and history. Its architecture and preserved sections, such as the rear barracks (koszary szyjowe), the entrance portal, and the left wing of the barracks, attract history and architecture enthusiasts. As a witness to significant historical events, Fort GW IV "Optyń" remains a vital part of the region's military heritage.
