wikipedia
Górzyca, also known as Górzyca Odrzańska, is an urban-type village located in the Lubusz Voivodeship, on the banks of the Oder River. In the past, Górzyca obtained town rights multiple times, and its history dates back to the Middle Ages when the settlement became the capital of the Lubusz Bishopric. As early as 1252, Górzyca was mentioned in historical documents as an "oppidium," indicating its developed settlement and significance. After repeated degradations of its town status, the last grant of town rights took place in 1808. During World War II, Górzyca served as a prisoner-of-war camp, reflecting its difficult history. Architecturally, the parish church dedicated to Our Lady of Grace stands out, having been rebuilt after wartime destruction. The village also features remnants of the State Agricultural Farm (PGR) and interwar-period buildings, such as the Municipal Office. Culturally, Górzyca is characterized by the activity of local artistic groups, such as the "Odrzanki" Singing Ensemble and the Górzyca Folk Band, which participate in numerous festivals and events. The sports club "Odra" also operates here, developing various sections, including football and tennis. In the 1970s and 1980s, a PGR housing estate was established, and the village was electrified in 1951. Górzyca also has a local military history, evidenced by traces of various military formations. Since 2001, the village has been supplied with natural gas, and its infrastructure has been significantly developed. Górzyca also boasts rich fishing traditions, thanks to its location on the Oder River. An interesting landmark is the Monument to Soviet Soldiers, which was the site of annual ceremonies until 2018. The village continues to develop, with further investments planned, including in road and recreational infrastructure. Górzyca is a place with a rich history, dynamic culture, and diverse architecture, making it an excellent example for studies on the region's past.
