Gorzów Wielkopolski, formerly known as Landsberg an der Warthe, is a city in western Poland that plays a significant role as the seat of the Lubusz Voivode and an administrative center of the region. Its history dates back to the Middle Ages when it was granted town rights in 1257. Architecturally, Gorzów combines Gothic monuments, such as the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with Art Nouveau and modern buildings. The city features numerous parks and green areas, as well as 15th-century defensive walls. Culture in Gorzów thrives through various institutions, such as the Jan Dekert Lubusz Museum, the Juliusz Osterwa Theatre, and the Gorzów Philharmonic, making it an important artistic hub. Gorzów hosts numerous recurring events, including the International Music Festival "Serenada nad Wartą" and the "Dni Gorzowa nad Wartą" celebration. Interestingly, the city is known for its speedway traditions, and the sports club Stal Gorzów Wielkopolski boasts many outstanding players, including four-time world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik. Gorzów is also the origin of the globally renowned Landsberger Renette apple variety, and in 2016, the remains of a prehistoric rhinoceros were discovered here, enriching the local historical context. Another valuable aspect is Gorzów's location near the German border and its importance as a transport hub, with a well-developed road and rail network. The city is becoming increasingly popular not only among tourists but also for investments and settlement.
