wikipedia
Wielka Nieszawka is a rural commune in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, within the Toruń County. Its administrative seat is the village of Wielka Nieszawka. The commune covers an area of 216.22 km², and according to 2014 data, it is inhabited by 4,920 people. From 1975 to 1998, it administratively belonged to the Toruń Voivodeship. The terrain is diverse, dominated by forest land (55%) and agricultural land (8%). The current landscape owes its form to the North Polish glaciation, and the area features characteristic inland dunes, which are one of the best-developed complexes of their kind in the country. These dunes, mainly parabolic, reach heights of up to 30 meters and are a fundamental landscape-forming element of the region. The commune serves as a protected landscape area and is part of the "protective forests around Toruń" zone, making it an important ecological site. Administratively, the commune is divided into four village districts (sołectwa): Brzoza, Cierpice, Mała Nieszawka, and Wielka Nieszawka, and also includes non-administered villages. The economy of the commune, which is the second wealthiest rural commune in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, is based on a per capita income of PLN 4,027.27. It significantly contributes to the culture and history of the region, including registered monuments: a wooden Mennonite chapel from 1890, a cemetery of World War II prisoners of war, and the ruins of a 13th-century castle, which testify to its rich history. The commune borders many other communes, including Toruń, highlighting its importance in the local context. It is also worth noting that the terrain, rich flora and fauna, and nature protection enhance the commune's attractiveness as a place to live and a tourist destination.
