Hallerowska Tenement House in Krakow

Hallerowska Tenement House, also known as Antoniuszowska Tenement, is located on św. Jana Street in Kraków and is a historic building with fascinating architecture. Constructed at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries, it was originally a single-story structure with one room. Over the centuries, it underwent numerous renovations, transforming it into a two-story, three-bay tenement with an attic and classical details. The façade is adorned with pilasters, flat panels, and portals, while the interiors feature preserved Gothic portals and classical paintings. The building boasts rich architectural details, including barrel vaults in the cellars and intricately carved cornices. From a historical perspective, the tenement was owned by various individuals, including renowned royal physicians and noble families, highlighting its significance in Kraków's history. After World War II, the building underwent numerous functional and structural changes, including adaptations for commercial use. In 1966, it was entered into the register of historical monuments, confirming its cultural and architectural value. An interesting fact is that the cellars contain remnants from the 15th century, including cabinets and portals, as well as classical wall paintings from the 18th century. The tenement is not only rich in details but also holds a history spanning several centuries, making it an important site for enthusiasts of Kraków and its cultural heritage.
