The commune covers an area of 161 km², of which 72% is agricultural land and 21% is forest land. The Żelechowska Upland and the Łuków Plain shape its terrain, which is slightly varied, with elevations ranging from 160 to 180 meters above sea level. The history of the commune dates back to the 16th century, and the name Krzywda is associated with a legend about one of the sons of the Voivode of Sandomierz. The first mentions of the town appeared in a document from 1598, and among its owners over the centuries were, among others, Jan Czyszkowski and the Holnicki-Szulc family. An interesting event from World War II was the activity of the headquarters of the Independent Operational Group "Polesie" in Krzywda, as well as the activity of partisans in this area. After the war, the Holnicki manor, which witnessed many historical events, was taken over by the state treasury and now houses the Commune Office. Various educational institutions operate in the commune, including seven primary schools and school complexes named after famous figures such as Kornel Makuszyński and Henryk Sienkiewicz. The commune also has 3 clinics and many libraries, which demonstrates its commitment to the cultural and health development of its residents. In 2014, forest cover was 22.9%, and a significant percentage of the population uses water supply and sewage systems. The commune consists of 23 village administrative units (sołectwa) and several localities without such status, highlighting its local administrative structure. Despite its small area, the commune of Krzywda has a rich history, diverse infrastructure, and an active community, making it an interesting place both culturally and historically.
