The Józef Ignacy Kraszewski Studio-Museum in Poznań is a biographical museum institution located at 14 Wroniecka Street, operating as a branch of the Raczyński Library. The museum was opened in 1986 in a renovated townhouse and is dedicated to the life and work of one of the most important Polish writers of the 19th century, Józef Ignacy Kraszewski. The exhibits come from the collection of Marian Walczak, who spent 30 years gathering memorabilia related to the writer. In 1979, Walczak donated his collection to the city, obliging it to keep the items in Poznań and maintain the integrity of the collection. The museum boasts extensive holdings, including nearly 3,000 volumes of 19th- and 20th-century editions of Kraszewski’s works, original photographs from his life, as well as works of art such as sculptures, medals, prints, and press articles. A key part of the exhibition is the Kraszewski Study, which contains gifts the artist received on the 50th anniversary of his creative work, including an embroidered armchair featuring the coats of arms of twelve cities of historic Greater Poland. The museum also conducts educational activities, engaging in the promotion of knowledge about Kraszewski and his times. It is a place of great cultural and historical significance, attracting both literature enthusiasts and those interested in Polish history.
