wikipedia
Jabłonna is a village located in the Masovian Voivodeship, within the Jabłonna municipality, situated on the Vistula River northeast of Warsaw. The history of the village dates back to the 16th century when it was a clerical estate. In 1920, an internment camp for soldiers and officers of Jewish descent was established here, which sparked an international scandal. During World War II, the area around Jabłonna was the site of camps for Soviet prisoners of war, and its Jewish residents were deported to the ghetto in Legionowo. Jabłonna was liberated on October 28, 1944, by units of the 1st Polish Army. After the war, the village gained prominence, becoming a center for vegetable, fruit, and flower production, as well as one of the wealthiest areas in Poland. Jabłonna is home to the Church of Our Lady Queen of Poland and a number of historical monuments. Particularly noteworthy is the Baroque-Classicist palace of Primate Michał Poniatowski, built between 1775 and 1779 by Dominik Merlini, surrounded by a romantic park featuring a hermit's grotto. The palace burned down in 1944 but was rebuilt after the war. The area also preserves German fortifications from World War II. Jabłonna is experiencing intensive transport development, with the intersection of national road 61 and voivodeship road 630, as well as the Warsaw-Gdańsk railway line. Various bus carriers operate in the village. In terms of education, there is the Home Army Primary School, with a history dating back to the 19th century, and the White Eagle Middle School. A significant part of community life is the regularly organized Parkrun event, as well as the Volunteer Fire Department, established in 1912. A new police station was opened in 2014. Jabłonna features numerous monuments, including those commemorating John Paul II, Wincenty Witos, and fallen soldiers. The Jabłonna Municipal Library, operating since 1949, is named after Father Jan Twardowski and offers residents access to books and computers with internet. Among the notable figures associated with Jabłonna is Jerzy Miatkowski, a soldier of the Home Army. Jabłonna combines a rich history with dynamic development, offering residents and tourists numerous cultural and historical attractions.
