wikipedia
Kańczuga is a town in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, located in the historical Przemyśl Land on the Mleczka River. Settlement in this area dates back to 1340, and Kańczuga received its town rights in the 14th century. It was a private noble town, with the Pilecki family as its first owners. Kańczuga was also a place of settlement for many well-known families, such as the Odrowąż and Lubomirski families. The town's period of development occurred in the 16th century, when merchants built long and deep cellars here. Unfortunately, the town also experienced dramatic events, including Tatar invasions and wars. In the 18th century, Kańczuga passed into the hands of the Lubomirski family, and in the 19th century, it gained importance thanks to the emerging lace-making school. During World War II, the Germans established a ghetto for Jews in Kańczuga, where most of its inhabitants perished. Among the important figures associated with Kańczuga are Bishop Anatol Nowak and Abraham Brill, one of the founders of the New York Psychoanalytic Society. The town also has rich industrial traditions, with factories producing, among other things, equipment for rail vehicles and water supply installation systems. Kańczuga is home to valuable historical monuments, including the Church of St. Michael the Archangel, built in the early 17th century, and the Church of Our Lady of Grace, which was originally an Orthodox church. The town is also a place of social activity, where the SAAB Gt-Classic Association operates, bringing together enthusiasts of SAAB cars. The diverse history and traditions of Kańczuga make it an interesting point on the cultural map of Podkarpacie.
