wikipedia
The Kietrz Deanery, one of the 36 Roman Catholic deaneries in the Diocese of Opole, boasts a rich history dating back to 1729, when it was established. Originally, most of its territory belonged to the Diocese of Olomouc and remained within the borders of the Kingdom of Prussia for a long time after the First Silesian War in 1742. In 1972, the deanery was incorporated into the newly formed Diocese of Opole. Today, its dean is Fr. Marcin Sychterz. The Kietrz Deanery comprises 12 parishes, including the Parish of St. Catherine of Alexandria in Babice, the Parish of St. Thomas the Apostle in Kietrz, and the Parish of Our Lady Help of Christians in Ściborzyce Wielkie. These parishes differ in both architecture and style, reflecting local traditions and historical influences. For example, some churches retain Baroque elements, while others feature Neo-Gothic characteristics. Interestingly, the parish in Maciowakrze was never part of the Diocese of Olomouc, making it unique within the group. Statistics from 1863 indicate that at that time, the deanery had 36,907 Catholics, 913 non-Catholics, and 305 Jews, highlighting its multicultural character. It is also worth noting the involvement of local communities in preserving the region's traditions and culture, which is evident in the organization of various religious and cultural events that bring residents together. Thus, the Kietrz Deanery is not only a place of religious significance but also an important cultural center where history, tradition, and community come together as one.
