Kołaki Kościelne is a rural commune located in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, within the Zambrów County. The administrative seat of the commune is the village of Kołaki Kościelne. The commune has undergone several administrative changes; until 1925 it was known as the Kosaki-Rutki commune, and from 1925 to 1954 it functioned as the Kołaki commune. Between 1975 and 1998, it was part of the Łomża Voivodeship. As of June 30, 2004, the commune covered an area of 73.76 km² and had a population of 2,436 people. Agricultural land accounts for 67% of the commune's area, while forests cover 26%. The commune is demographically diverse, as reflected in the 2014 population age pyramid. It comprises several village administrations (sołectwa), including Kołaki Kościelne, Cholewy-Kołomyja, and Czarnowo-Dąb. Nearby communes include Kulesze Kościelne, Rutki, Wysokie Mazowieckie, and Zambrów.
