Kobylany

Kobylany is a village located in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, in Krosno County, known for its rich history dating back to the 14th century. Its geographical location near the Łąka stream and proximity to the former trade route established by Casimir the Great give the village cultural significance. Surrounded by the hills of the Jasło Foothills, Kobylany borders other localities such as Łęki and Nienaszów. Over the centuries, Kobylany has undergone various changes in ownership and administrative status, and its history is closely tied to notable figures from Polish history, such as Domarat Kobylański, the court marshal, and Prof. Szymon Wierdak, a botanist and nature conservationist. Architecturally, the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built in 1775, stands out as an important religious and cultural landmark in the region. Records from historical documents indicate the presence of a church in Kobylany as early as the 15th century. Other significant sites include the Sulimirski manor surrounded by an old park and a monument commemorating those who fell in the battles against the Bolsheviks in 1920. The village has witnessed numerous historical events, including military actions during both World Wars, and was influenced by the Reformation in the 16th century when it became an important center of Calvinism. The tragic events of World War II, including the arrest and death of Father Stanisław Kołodziej, left a deep mark on the memory of the local community. Kobylany is also known for its diverse social and cultural traditions, such as the participation of local farmers in peasant strikes. Modern village life includes the activities of secular religious associations, such as the Secular Missionary Movement "Epiphany." Kobylany is an example of a rich heritage that blends local traditions with the broader history of Poland.
