wikipedia
Krępa Kościelna is a village in the Masovian Voivodeship, in Lipsko County, situated on the Krępianka River. It is the seat of the Roman Catholic parish of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. The history of the village dates back to the Middle Ages, when it became known due to Piotr of Krępa, the commander of the defense of Sandomierz against the Tatars in 1259. The church in Krępa, mentioned since 1326, was originally a filial church of the parish in Lipsk. In the 14th century, the village was characterized by a low population density, caused by infertile soils and its peripheral location. In 1681, the church was robbed by Szymon Diaczek, who was quickly captured and executed after the theft. In the 18th century, the village became the property of Stanisław Denhoff and then Konstancja Sanguszkowa, who funded a new wooden church. During the Kościuszko Uprising, the parish organized a collection to support the fight. In 1863, Colonel Dionizy Czachowski stayed overnight in Krępa, later dying in battle. During World War I, the village suffered significant destruction, and after the war, it had a rich educational activity, including the existence of an elementary school. Krępa is home to numerous historical monuments, including an 18th/19th-century parish cemetery, a figure commemorating the former church, and memorial plaques related to the Polish-Bolshevik War and the January Uprising. The figure of Bishop Stanisław Sygget, born in Krępa in 1924, highlights the cultural significance of this locality. Krępa is also a religious place where the local community has developed over the centuries, reflected in numerous events and traditions.
