wikipedia
Lilli Weneda Park, located in Kraków within District XII Bieżanów-Prokocim, has a rich history dating back to World War II, when the area was used by the occupying forces to build a freight station and labor camps. The resulting excavation was flooded and transformed into a natural water reservoir known as Bagry. After the war, the area underwent further changes, and in the 1960s, plans for new housing estates began to take shape, which influenced the local environment, eventually leading to water regulation, urban expansion, and the creation of the Prokocim Forest. In 1992, the District Council decided to establish a park, which was formally granted the status of a municipal park in 1995. The project was designed by architect Maria Chomik-Wolak, and the investment was managed by the Kraków Housing Cooperative. The park was opened in 1999 and covers an area of 9.32 hectares, with its architectural layout comprising three main zones: a southern meadow, a central forested area, and a northern section with a system of ponds. The park is an example of sustainable development, where existing tree stands were preserved and new vegetation adapted to the soil and water conditions was introduced. The park's flora consists mainly of forested areas, while its fauna is rich in diverse species of birds, insects, and mammals. Another feature of the park is its recreational functions, including playgrounds and rest areas, making it a popular spot among the residents of Prokocim. In 2017, a new playground was added, further enriching the recreational offerings. It is also worth noting that user-friendly projects have been implemented in the park, taking into account the needs of people with disabilities. Lilli Weneda Park, serving as a place of rest and recreation, also plays an important role in preserving the local biodiversity and history of Prokocim.
