wikipedia
Lubawka, located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in the Kamienna Góra County, is a town with a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. The first traces of settlement in this area date back to the Neolithic era, and the oldest written mention of Lubawka comes from 1284. Its location on the trade route between Northern and Southern Europe favored the town's development, and it most likely received its town rights in 1292. In later centuries, Lubawka was under the rule of the Habsburgs and then the Prussians, which significantly influenced its economic and cultural development. The town was known for its linen weaving and as a center for crafts. In the 18th century, Lubawka experienced significant growth but also struggled with natural disasters, including a tragic fire in 1734. The reconstructed town gained a new splendor. In the 19th century, industry and crafts developed here, along with infrastructure, including the railway. Among the monuments of Lubawka are the Gothic parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the town hall built between 1723 and 1726, and the complex of the Lubawka Calvary. The town also played an important tourist role, attracting visitors with the beautiful surroundings of the Krucze Mountains. Interestingly, Lubawka is known for the activities of the Municipal Sports Club Orzeł Lubawka, as well as for organizing local cultural events, such as the Lubawka City Festival. In 2023, the town had 5,617 inhabitants and is developing its road infrastructure, which contributes to its further development and integration with the region.
