wikipedia
The Town Hall in Lwówek Śląski, built between 1522 and 1524 in the Gothic-Renaissance style, is a site of rich history and cultural significance. Its architecture features a rectangular building with two storeys, high cellars, and a characteristic steep gable roof adorned with numerous dormer windows. On the western side, it is attached to a tall tower, which has a quadrangular base transitioning into a cylindrical upper section, equipped with four clock faces and crowned with a spire. The eastern and western elevations are decorated with geometric divisions, while the southern facade stands out with richly decorated double windows and a portal. The Town Hall houses a network of institutions, including the municipal authorities, the Civil Registry Office, and the Historical and Museum Facility. It also draws attention with its clock, which chimes only during the day, featuring a distinctive noon hejnał. The Town Hall has undergone numerous expansions and renovations, including repairs after damage sustained during World War II. The building is listed in the register of monuments, and its geometric form serves as an excellent example of harmonious proportions. Its history dates back to the mid-13th century, with documents from 1356 first mentioning a "town hall." The building has been remodeled multiple times, including work on decorative vaulting supervised by the renowned architect Wendel Roskopf. The Town Hall is not only an administrative center but also a symbol of local culture, hosting various events and festivals, such as the 11th Lwóweckie Agate Summer. In 2018, work began on creating a multimedia exhibition, highlighting the continued development and appeal of the Town Hall as a cultural landmark in the region. As a public utility building and asset, it aims to protect local heritage and history, thereby transforming Lwówek Śląski into a tourist attraction for the area.
