wikipedia
Machory is a village located in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, known for its rich industrial history dating back to the 16th century when iron production began. It was once the seat of a municipality, later a commune, and is now part of the Ruda Maleniecka municipality. The village has a strong metallurgical tradition and was a significant industrial center in the 18th century, producing pig iron, among other goods. In 1833, the first puddling furnace was established here, revolutionizing iron production in the region. However, technological changes and the greater profitability of tile manufacturing eventually led to the decline of the metallurgical industry. In the early 20th century, a tile and cardboard factory began operations, which remained active until the 1970s, providing employment and sustaining local community life. Architecturally, Machory features few preserved historical sites, such as remnants of the tile factory, farm buildings, a manor house, and the Dołęga family’s tomb chapel. An interesting aspect of the village’s history is its former Calvinist and later Catholic owners, who did not introduce traditional religious symbols to the area. The church in Machory, originally a chapel founded by Ludwik Bayer, now functions as an independent pastoral center with a vibrant community. The village is also the birthplace of notable figures, including the painter Antoni Karol Kolberg and the journalist and satirist Artur Gliszczyński. Despite industrialization and technological shifts, Machory remains a symbol of local history and culture, with its industrial heritage continuing to attract interest.
