wikipedia
The Main Library of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, established in 1921, is a significant cultural and scientific hub of the university. Its architecture has undergone numerous transformations—after initial locations, including one on Loretańska Street, it moved to a new building at 30 Mickiewicz Avenue, where it acquired a modern, specialized character. The library's history is rich; thanks to various donations, including those from international institutions, its collection grew dynamically, reaching 17,194 volumes by 1938. During World War II, the collections were deposited at the Jagiellonian Library and returned after the war, though diminished. A key figure in the library's development was Władysław Piasecki, who introduced modern library solutions in the 1950s and 1960s, leading to the completion of a new modular building in 1966. The library not only collects traditional book collections (438,315 volumes) but also provides access to electronic resources and databases. In 2014, the Open Access Zone was opened, enabling self-service book borrowing. An interesting feature is the Historical Collection, which includes publications of exceptional value, mainly pre-1945 rare prints. The library also plays a role in the "History of AGH" project, showcasing the university's past and its notable figures. Today, it serves as a key information center, supporting both scholars and students in their research and studies.
