wikipedia
Maszewo, a rural commune in the Lubusz Voivodeship within Krosno County, boasts a rich history and an interesting demographic and territorial structure. The administrative seat of the commune is the town of Maszewo, which until 1954 was known as the commune of Korczyców. Between 1975 and 1998, the commune was part of the Zielona Góra Voivodeship. According to data from June 30, 2004, Maszewo was inhabited by 2,991 people, and the 2007 parliamentary elections saw a record low voter turnout of 28.76%. The commune covers an area of 213.56 km², of which 27% is agricultural land and 64% is forest land, reflecting the community's strong ties to agriculture and forestry. The commune constitutes 15.37% of the county's total area. It comprises numerous village administrative units (sołectwa), including Bytomiec, Chlebów, Gęstowice, and Maszewo, as well as localities without such status, such as Dąbrówka and Maszewko. The commune borders other municipalities, including Bytnica, Cybinka, Gubin, Krosno Odrzańskie, and Torzym. In an architectural context, like many other Polish communes, Maszewo has the potential to explore local building and cultural traditions. The notably low voter turnout is particularly interesting and may indicate specific local conditions influencing residents' engagement. The demographics and land structure of Maszewo commune paint a comprehensive picture of an area that, despite its small size, enjoys a rich heritage worth exploring.
