Modliborzyce is an urban-rural municipality located in the Lublin Voivodeship, within Janów County, with its administrative seat in Modliborzyce. The municipality boasts a rich history, with roots dating back to 1631 when it was established as an urban municipality, and in 1864, a rural municipality was formed. In 1869, the urban municipality was dissolved and merged with the rural one, and Modliborzyce regained its town rights only on January 1, 2014, after 144 years. The municipality covers an area of 153.15 km², of which 55% is agricultural land and 36% is forested. As of the end of 2020, it had a population of 6,914. The municipality is home to the Imielty Ług Nature Reserve, which protects wetland areas typical of the Solska Wilderness, along with rare vegetation and bird species. The municipality is also known for publishing the quarterly "Wieści Gminne" (Municipal News), which provides information on local government activities, cultural and sporting events, and various community initiatives. The municipality includes numerous village administrations (sołectwa), as well as localities without such status, such as Janówek. Modliborzyce borders the municipalities of Batorz, Godziszów, Janów Lubelski, Potok Wielki, Pysznica, and Szastarka, highlighting its local context and interactions with neighboring communities.
