Mokotów Field

Pole Mokotowskie, also known as Józef Piłsudski Park, is a large park complex in Warsaw, spanning the districts of Mokotów, Ochota, and Śródmieście. Originally established in the 19th century as a military training ground, it later served as an airfield and a venue for sports events. Today, the park covers approximately 70 hectares and is divided into two parts by Aleja Niepodległości (Independence Avenue). The eastern section features a concentric layout with a centrally located fountain, while the western part has a more dispersed design. Pole Mokotowskie holds significant recreational value for Warsaw residents, consistently ranking high in surveys as a favorite leisure spot. Its proximity to numerous universities makes it particularly popular among students. The park hosts various events, including Earth Day celebrations. An interesting fact is that it lies within an ecological corridor, connecting it to other green areas in Warsaw, and is home to 328 plant species. In a section known as the "Wild Corner," many valuable fruit tree varieties can be found. From an architectural perspective, since the 1930s, various urban plans have been proposed for the park, including designs for monumental buildings and avenues. However, these were never fully realized due to World War II and subsequent political changes. In recent years, from 2021 to 2023, the park underwent modernization aimed at expanding green spaces and improving recreational infrastructure, with the addition of new sports facilities and diverse plantings. Pole Mokotowskie has also become a key destination on Warsaw’s cycling map, with high levels of bicycle traffic. Additionally, it has been listed in the municipal register of historical monuments. Overall, Pole Mokotowskie symbolizes an urban space rich in history, cultural activity, and natural significance.
