Municipal Stadium in Krakow

The Henryk Reyman Municipal Stadium in Krakow, home to the Wisła Kraków football team, is a facility with a rich history and modern architecture. Its structure is the result of several construction projects that began as early as the beginning of the 20th century. The club's first stadium was opened in 1914, but a fire in 1915 prevented its long-term use. Another facility, opened in 1922, also did not stand the test of time and was destroyed in 1946. In 1953, a new stadium was put into operation, hosting various important events until the decision was made for a thorough reconstruction between 2000 and 2011 in connection with the organization of Euro 2012. The final designs, developed by architect Wojciech Obtułowicz, introduced two-tier stands, a media pavilion, VIP boxes, and numerous amenities. The stadium currently seats 33,326 spectators, and its modern roof, including lighting panels, significantly improves spectator comfort and the quality of the pitch. The stands behind the goals, which foster fan support, are particularly noteworthy. The stadium also features a museum and a souvenir shop, making it a cultural center for the local community. The venue has hosted many important events, including the opening ceremony of the European Games in 2023, as well as matches of the Polish national team and European cup competitions. An interesting fact is that the stadium has the only pitch heating system in Poland, allowing it to be used in harsh weather conditions. Thus, the Municipal Stadium is not only a place for great entertainment but also a symbol of the history and culture of Krakow and Wisła Kraków.
