Museum of Engineering and Technology in Krakow

The Museum of Engineering and Technology in Krakow was established on October 1, 1998, as the Museum of Urban Engineering. It is located in a historic complex at 15 św. Wawrzyńca Street, which was the city's oldest tram depot. The institution collects exhibits related to the development of urban transport, energy, gasworks, and the history of technology, with its collection comprising over 3,000 objects, including various machines and devices. The museum is active in organizing interactive educational exhibitions that attract school youth and promote technical knowledge. In 2021, the museum completed a modernization that doubled its exhibition space to approximately 6,000 m², introducing modern architectural solutions and eco-friendly technologies. It is also worth mentioning the numerous awards the museum has received, including the prestigious "Sybilla" award for its educational value and innovation. An interesting fact is that the museum has two branches: the Stanisław Lem Garden of Experiences and the Czyżyny Hangar. Its history dates back to the 1970s when the first plans to create such an institution emerged on the occasion of the centenary of Krakow's urban transport. Local associations and individuals connected with technology were actively involved in the museum's activities, contributing to its dynamic development. The museum not only preserves historical artifacts but also plays an educational role, engaging in various national and international projects, making it a significant cultural element of Krakow.
