Museum of Pharmacy of the Wielkopolska Regional Chamber of Pharmacy in Poznań

The Museum of Pharmacy of the Wielkopolska Regional Chamber of Pharmacy in Poznań is located at 11 Marcinkowskiego Avenue, on the edge of the Old Town. It was established in June 1989 on the initiative of the Section of the History of Pharmacy of the Poznań Branch of the Polish Pharmaceutical Society, and its first seat was located in the "Pod Białym Orłem" (Under the White Eagle) Pharmacy on the Old Market Square. The museum was opened by Jan Majewski as its first curator, and its establishment was funded by the Pharmaceutical Supply Company "Cefarm". The exhibits were mainly obtained from the Museum of Pharmacy of the Jagiellonian University and through donations from Wielkopolska pharmacists. In 1992, the museum came under the management of the Wielkopolska Regional Chamber of Pharmacy, and four years later it was moved to its new location at Marcinkowskiego Avenue. After a thorough renovation, the museum was opened to the public in 2000. Architecturally, the building that currently houses the museum retains features of a historical style, fitting into the context of the Old Town's architecture. Among the museum's rich collections are historic pharmacy equipment from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, including exhibits from the pharmacy in Miłosław, as well as the oldest item dating back to the end of the 17th century. Culturally, the museum plays an important role in popularizing the history of pharmacy in the region and uncovering treasures of knowledge about medicine and pharmacy. Interestingly, the museum has a library of about 1,200 volumes, including old prints dedicated to pharmacy, making it a valuable place not only for history enthusiasts but also for scientists and students interested in the subject. The museum plays a significant role in preserving the cultural heritage of pharmacy in Wielkopolska and in public education about the role of pharmacists in the history of medicine.
