wikipedia
Nowe is an urban-rural commune in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, within Świecie County, known for its rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. The seat of the commune is the town of Nowe, and it consists of 10 village districts, including Bochlin, Gajewo, and Mątawy. The commune covers an area of 106.36 km², of which 59% is agricultural land and 26% is forest. In 2017, the commune had a population of 10,371, indicating a slight decrease compared to 2007. The area boasts diverse architectural monuments, including churches, manor houses, and defensive walls, such as the Teutonic castle from 1350 and the parish church of St. Matthew from 1366. In Nowe, visitors can also see distinctive structures like a 20th-century Dutch windmill and a manor complex in Kończyce. The commune also holds significant natural value, as part of its territory lies within the Lower Vistula Valley Landscape Park Complex and the Eastern Protected Landscape Area of the Tuchola Forest. Within the commune, there are 13 natural monuments and one ecological site—the swamp in Twarda Góra. An interesting fact is that the commune was a center of evangelical activity, as evidenced by numerous evangelical cemeteries and a synagogue in Nowe. Non-village settlements, such as Dolne Morgi and Twarda Góra, add unique character to the local landscape. The commune borders many others, creating opportunities for cooperation and regional development.
